Depth-Oriented Psychotherapy

Dr. Jack Mendoza is a psychological associate at Soul in Mind and a graduate of the Clinical Psychology program at Pacifica Graduate Institute. Throughout his career in psychology, he has focused his attention on midlife transition; notably with men who have ignored, repressed, or rejected trauma consciously and are now suffering silently in their masculinity. In addition, Dr. Mendoza has worked as an advocate and therapist for young adults and teenagers navigating the anxieties that accompany crucial developmental stages in one’s life.  Finally, as the son of Salvadoran immigrants who experienced firsthand the integration of one culture into another, the loss of identity, and the everyday insecurities, doubts, and anxieties of migration expressed by the immigrant, Jack Mendoza is an advocate for the voluntary, involuntary, and exiled immigrant. It is through film, music, comedy, art, and literature that Dr. Mendoza attempts to understand the language and dynamic of Soul.

What is Depth Psychology?

Unlike mainstream psychology, which primarily focuses on conscious thoughts and behaviors, depth psychology explores the unconscious—the hidden motives, archetypes, and past experiences that shape who we are. Using techniques like dream analysis, active imagination, and free association, this approach sees symptoms not as problems to eliminate but as meaningful expressions of deeper psychic conflicts. Rooted in existential, mythological, and symbolic perspectives, depth psychology seeks more than symptom management; it fosters self-discovery, transformation, and individuation.

“My hope is for you to forgive what has occurred through reflection and welcome what is coming through acceptance.”
